Hi
I am new to the whole livebearer thing...I have mostly S. American fish....recently we restocked my daughter's tank with livebearers- platies, mollies and guppies....
Her female guppy had 8 babies :D ...I put her in a 5 gal by herself to have her fry then I put her back in my daughter's tanks with the rest when she finished....
My neighbor (who I got hooked on aquariums  ) had a platy that had babies....he also has a guppy that is about to drop...so, to free up his fry tank, we put his platy fry in with my guppy fry (so his guppy could have that tank to have her babies in)...his fry are about a week old and my guppy fry are 3 days old...
Here are my questions- finally ;) ....how long before I can tell them apart - they look very similar...and how long before they get coloration, and how long before they can be sexed and separated.......
Well, thanks in advance!!!!
Ericka

You probably won't have to seperate for at least a month, if ever really, but color could show up soon or two months from now. Sexing them, if you're really good can be at about 1 month - variables are size/growth rate of fry, lighting and your skill. Enjoy them  It's very cool.

congrats.. they will take a while.. i know my guppies barley started getting anyyy color up untill 3 days ago.. which still have no color but its still better then the "clear" that they were before.. give it a good month and you should see some color variations.

very cool- thank you!!! It is exciting...we had Blue Rams lay eggs last november and raised those fry...and now these... :p
thanks again...
