Yesterday I inherited 5 platy fry - they are about 6 weeks old and in good condition. I introduced them to my comminuty tank but have them housed in floating trap for the time being. How long before I should introduce them into the community tank? it is a 180litre aquarium (well planted) which contains 4 platies, 2 Giant Danios, 2 Clown Loach (6cm), 2 Oplaine Gouramis, 2 kribs and 2 Bronze Corys. I really don't want them to end up as food for the bigger fish....

hiya bertie
the best time to let them loose in the main tank is when they look like they will be to big to fit in the other fishes mouths. hth :D

Mayb someone has already told you but, your tank isnt big enough for the clown loaches, if you were going to keep them and upgrade they need to be in a bigger group. If you cannot upgrade i would rehome them.

Also your corys need to be in a bigger group of at least 3+

good luck with your fry

i always find that when the fish can swim against the current they will be able to handle the tank. when i put my first fry in my tank it just got blown over to the side and couldn't really swim. i have baby platies that are about 3 weeks old and they are still tiny( i didn't put any of my fry in until almost 9 months of age, so i imagine yours can't be big enough yet.
