Hy guys,

I've had about 30 platy babies over 4 separate births by two mothers.

Every single one of the babies is female.

I haven't lost any so its not all the boys that are dying.

Is this unusual? Do I need to change the temp in the tank?

I just can't beleive it.....

Sounds like you got lucky, my platy went through 2 full cycles and gave birth to 17 the first time, all of which initially lived until eaten (still 2 left and one is now half an inch long), the 2nd cycle she aborted even more as i found out when i cleaned my gravel and found at least 20 fry remains...?

How old are these fry? Remember gonopodia do not show until they are several months old; they all look female at first. I am still waiting for the final verdict on the batch that was born in July.

Ooooh!!

That'll be why then!!

I think they are about 1 month old.......

i saw all the triangle shaped gonopodia and thought, huh????

Yeah, some of those females will be males in disguise. :shifty: Some fish mature faster then other's. You might start seeing gonopodiums in a month or so, some it might take another 5 months. So if you are seperating males and females, you have to check everyday!

thats more like, it i was gonna say it had to be a world record if it's all females!!!!!

I found a sole surviving platty fry in my tank about 4 months ago i was convinced it was a female ...until i looked at it yesterday i was  it's a male

I also had the same problem with my guppy fry too :D lol Thought i had 17 females and 8 males now i have 11 females and 13 males :S lol

my 7 week old guppy is confusing me to, thought she was a female, then looked thinking nope i have got a baby boy, next i cant make out what the little bugga is.just have to wait until he/she gets older.
