hi

Tropical Fish Newbie sorry :(

I've had a bio-orb for around 6 weeks

I have a Platy, Leopard Moly and 2 male Guppys

The Platy has just given birth to its second load of fry (that i know of)

From the first set - 1 baby still lives - hiding around the rocks
surfacing now and again, bright orange with black tail and fins
just like its mum :)

This morning I found 6 live fry in the filter, got them out and placed them
in a bag of fishtank water, and now have the bag floating at the top
of the bio-orb.

How can I keep these fry alive ?

1 survived last time - but more luck than judgement :(

If I let these guys out again I can imagine they will be in the filter tomorrow :(

Can fish from other species breed, or was the Platy pregnant in the pet shop tank ?

Cheers for any help & advice

Congretulation for your fry! I would say from the pet shop. For livebearer, then can give birth 3-5 time from from 1 breeding.

For the filter just put a stocking around.

But if you put the fry right now the adult will eat them.If you got lots of plant some will survive. The best is to put them back when they are about 1 inch.
Good luck.

right i have had my biorb for around 7 months now here is what i find helps

you can't put a stocking over the filter as it wont work with biorb filters

push all the ceramic media around the openings near the filter, you may need to buy another pack of ceramic media to do this properly,

plant well, thick live plants are best, esp with the platys because as soon as these get about 4 days they stay in there until its food time, then go straight back in there, unlike the guppies,

unfortunatley there is no way of stopping them going in the filter because they are investigative little things, but as soon as one is in, just unscrew it and release him.

you could also get a fry tank set up and put a corner filter in that tank which cost like 3 quid that way they can get trapped in the filter or get eaten by bigger fish thats what i have done.

but beware catching them in a biorb is harder said than done, esp with platys
