about how old are platy fry before they start getting coloring? Im trying to figure out how old my 3 babies are because I had no idea that they were even expected...just came upon them last week when vacuuming. Last week when I found them they were translucent...now they are definately getting colors...orange and black like their obviously mommy is...so I was just wondering about how old that would make them if they've just gotten color in the last say...3-4 days?

I found a randon platy fry when vaccumming months ago. We called him hercules the super fish. I was cleaning the tankout totally. He hadnt had a heater on in weeks! Let alone been fed. he was about 3weeks old when i found him and had his first dalmation spot at 2weeks.

My orange ('marigold' according to the shop) platy had babies which were orange at birth - pale and translucent, but definitely orange. We were on our way out when they arrived, and they'd all disappeared when we got home - eaten by the other fish  - but a week later we discovered one little one hiding under the bogwood. It's still there, and getting big enough now that hopefully it won't fit in the others' mouths! I guess it could depend on the colours - mine don't have any black, just orange/yellow - but these were orange from day one.

Hope yours are doing well! :good:
