I have 5 red wagtail platys all female, as well as a couple of males and i have noticed that one of the females keeps making bubbles on the surface and it looks similar to a siamese fighters bubble nest but not quite grouped together. does this mean anything or is it just normal ?

:good:

I dont know if it means anything mate, but its not a bubble nest like a betta (siamese fighter), because platys are livebearers meaning that they give birth to live fish.

I have one male Platy among three females currently in my tank. He is about a month into the tank, so the first of the females has started dropping fry. That hasn't stopped him from following around the females constantly trying to get another chance at mating. I noticed too that he will make bubbles on top. They disappear pretty quickly though. It's just air. You might have a film on the top of your water that is making the bubbles stay for a prolonged period of time. A quick, easy way to get rid of the film would be to lay a plain paper town on the top of the water and it will soak up the top layer along with the film.

Like Danh said, it's definitely not a bubble nest as they are livebearers.

The bubbles from a siamese fighter stay there because they are coated with a sort of saliva. I agree it may be a film on your tank water. Is it in need of a water change perhaps. It would be worth doing a partial one anyway, just to be on the safe side.
Sometimes a film can form if there is no surface movement. Have a look anyway. :good:
