My sister found some platy babies in my tank and, my platy is in labor. We moved her in to anther tank but, we are wondering how long will it take for her to have all of her babies? Plus any advice for us?

if you plan on keeping them catch what you have in the original tank and move in with the mother. she will still eat them but come the morning id expect her labour to be over. remove her after a good feed of frozen bloodworm or something (shes going to be fragile for a week) then you'll have the fry in a seperate tank. a 10% water change every second day will see 50% improved groth and feed small amounts 3 times a day. any snails in the tank will really help eat what the fry miss and keep the water perfect. after about 2 months they will be big enough to sell on or swap if you can. or to release in to the rest of the tank. if you dont want to keep the fry just leave well alone and you may see 1 or 2 survivors in a few weeks depending on how heavily the tank is planted (hiding places)

i could write tips for hours on this subject ive been breeding these for years and make fair decent money from it but its always best to research as much as you can for yourself

One of my platy's gave birth a couple of weeks ago. I may of missed some of it when I moved her into a breeder net as she only dropped around a dozen, eight arew still alive in the net and getting bigger! You do have to watch her while she's dropping them though, she didn't seem hungry but wouldn't turn one down if it swam in front of her face. I found this out after she dropped one and ate it within ten seconds!
