we have got a new fish tank (bi-orb) and my mum got a red platy fish as well as others. (we think it is a platy as it is red with black tail and a small black mark on his face). Mr Red is in fact Mrs Red as a few weeks later we saw a number of babies in the rocks. We now have about 10 platys and my mum is worried we will again have more fish but the tank is not that big! how many platys should we have and how can we stop it.
(my mum has asked me to ask as im off school and they are my fish!) :0)x

Good morning and welcome! :good: If you don't want baby fish, keep the males and females separated. If you don't have the room to separate them, maybe your lfs will take them when they are big enough.

Hello!

Well, when my molly started having babies - I bought a 10 gallon tank off someone cheap and have been keeping them in there until they are big enough to give away to my friends...but if that is not an option, then unfortunately there is nothing you can do to stop them from breeding unless you keep only females or only males. Good Luck! :)

Thanks for answering my question. Next question I have though is how do I tell male and female apart? Sorry, Im new to keeping fish :0(
