Was wondering how long it takes for platy babies to developing colouring if they are going to have any?
We recently got platies for the first time and they're doing brilliantly (getting our second batch of fry right now ). A couple are now about 15mm long (maybe a month old?) and just have a slight pink colour. Dont mind if they are brightly coloured or not, just curious
Also is it common for platies to not have many fry? I've read (here) that dozens of fry is normal out of one group, but I never saw more than 4 babies from our first group (and I spent ages looking!), 2 of which have survived <shrug>
hi,
i have 3 platy moms a red wag,a coral,and a black one,
i see the first signs of colour on the fry about 2-3 weeks after birth esp on the black and red wags fry,
it takes a little longer on coral because shes silver with a blue spot on her tail,
i dont think mine have ever had more than 6 fry each batch, but i let mine give birth in the main tank so they could of been eaten.hth
I've had my platy's for about 6 months now 4 female and 1 male and i only got 2 fry of them so far and their abour 2 months old. they had their colour straight from birth but their mums are bright orange. i thought the other day if i got another male then that might mean the other male i have now might thin he's got compotion and start producing more fry. it's working so far as the male i've had for 6 months is chasing the females a bit more, mind you though the new male is a hansom fella so i'm not surprised.
My redwag got its back at about 4 weeks and sunset I dont know yet and my red ones. well you can tell what are sunset and what are red as the sunset are yellow and the red are orange.. am I making sence haha. also all of my platties have had over 25 babies. some are born asleep and some get eaten by the mother as none of mine eat for a few days before giving birth.. they each birth in a seperate tank. I then let her have a hour and make sure the babies are safe but she always gets a few..
