My platy spends the afternoon hours right at the top of the tank and almost looks like she is blowing bubbles. There is an airstone in the tank with her so I have a hard time believing that it is an aeration issue.

The video quality is not great but if I go close to the tank she starts moving around more in anticipation of food.

I'm also having an issue with water clarity and have been for a while which may be a contributing factor but I'm not sure.

Check the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH.

Milky cloudy water is normally caused by uneaten food that encourages bacteria to bloom and turn the water white. The uneaten food causes ammonia problems that will kill fish and other organisms. It will cause fish to gasp at the surface.

How long has the tank been set up for?

---------------------
Wipe the inside of the glass down with a clean fish sponge.

Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for a week.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it is added to the tank.

Clean the filter if it hasn't been done in the last 2 weeks. However, if the filter is less than 6 weeks old, do not clean it. Wash the filter materials/ media in a bucket of tank water and re-use them. Tip the bucket of dirty water on the garden/ lawn.

Reduce feeding to once every couple of days.

The tank has been set up for about 4 or 5 months

I've reduced feeding over the past week or so in an attempt to get rid of pest snails and it has worked

I can definitely reduce feeding further
