I bought five platies , 3 females and one male today. They seem to be doing well except for a rainbow platy , female that spends half of her time with her mouth to the very top of the water. this hasnt happened with any other of my fish. Any ideas? ( btw i have a 54litre tank w 5 other small community fish)

Can you tell us what your:

Ammonia readings, PH, What fish, What filteration you have?

my ammonia is low , i have the 4 other platys and a bbunch of old survivors ; a plec , a glass catfish , 3 tetras and a bronze cory

If you don't know your stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, i would do a water change, get your water tested, and ask for the results to be written down for you, should never add new fish to a tank with out knowing your test results.
Increase aeration, what was the ph of the store to your tank, and how long did you climatise them for.

I climatised them for 20 mins ( if were talkin about the same thing) the guy at the store told me his ph was roughly 7.6 - mine is about 6.9 or so nitrate is low and so is ammonia. like i said - none of the other fish are acting in this way

Quite a difference in ph there, just hope its not ph shock as they should of been climatised for hours.
