Platy Abuse

hey guys i have 4 mickey mouse platy and one platy keeps bullying another platy

he keeps nipping at his left fin and its about 1/2 shorter than the right

kinda like in finding nemo

what should I do? i dont think i can get another tank because all my outlets are occupied(w/ extensions)

would a breeding tank that i can hook up on the side do the trick? or will it just cause stress?

I wouldn't get a breeding tank since it would cause stress. I would see what happens in the next couple of days and if it continues, take the bully platy back to the LFS.

What sex are the 2 platys invloved here?

If they are both male then I'm afraid the bullying is unlikely to stop as the bigger fish is asserting his dominance and right to breed with the other fish [I'm guessing they both female] and I'm afraid the only option [as stated above] is to get a rid of the bully [I mean take him back to the shop]. However bear in mind, if there are male and female platys in the same tank I can pretty much say that it's an almost 100% certainity you'll get platy fry which is something to bear in mind if you're short on space already.

And I definately agree with the breeding trap, it's a no no. Horrible things imho.

ok ill see what will go on for the next 3 days poor little guy hiding in the corner and barly getting a chance to catch some flakes

guess all i can do is wait for now
