Platty trouble

So having seen that she's happy and eating well again I go and get two female platties (and yes I was very careful to choose two healthy looking definite females) to join her in the 55g. Not one hour after they've been let loose in the tank one of the new females is jiggling about like a nutter.....having contractions! She's stopped again now and still not had them but she's been doing that on and off all afternoon. Seems like the 3 won't stay that way long.

Oh my, we have fry in the tank. I can't catch them. There's too many hiding places to get near them. Not sure any will survive with the angels and the brachys in there now. But I kinda hope so. I shall try and seperate a few if I get the chance. :D

Awww, congrats! With Angels and Brachys (Synos, I'm guessing?) I can't see many surviving. However, they are hardy little guys, so you may actually get a few. They are pretty smart in the hiding department too. If you do want to catch them, try putting some food in the tank, then they'll usually come out. 2 Nets help too. :p

Good luck! :D

The platties are very hardy, we managed to save over 20 fry, in a seperate tank.
They are now well grown and are all females, these are the ones that have to go ( some of them.

ours hid in the plants and rocks.

Cool. Somehow I really can't imagine any escaping the catfish tho. Noctural hunters. Although they leave the platties alone I can't imagine them ignoring little fry! And they have excellent eyesight. At the moment one of the cats is still sulking, having only been moved to the 55g from the store yesterday, involving putting up with my driving for close to 2 hours in the process. The other is pretty active already.
Still, you never can tell. And the platties will eventually go back to the community tank when I get a nice new smallish tank for the harlequins and a betta.
Hugs,
P.
