My two lil platties are demolishing the live plants in the tank big time. Are there any that can put up with this sort of punishment better? I'm constantly pulling bits of plant from the filter. They are both very well looking (Apart from today one is producing small white poop that floats??) They are really active during the day and one recently had fry (which sadly all got eaten before I could save them.). The tank is a jewel 60 litre and contains 4 tetras and 2 harlequinns with the 2 platties. One of the tetras and one of the harlequinns are new in today. I'm doing daily partial changes due to the hot weather and immature filter.
Hugs,
P.

ive never seen platies do that to plants, but maybe you could try some plants like vals or amazon swords that have those longer thicker leaves.

What plants do you have in your tank? Many plants let go of their leaves itself when not getting enough CO2 & light. It's quite likely your platties arent the problem here :) Plants that can definatly put up with your fish are broad leaf plants like the amazon sword though.

Also, fish do pick at dead or dying plant parts, that's probably what you're seeing :)

No, they are literally pulling them apart and eating them! :look: One of the plants is now dying because of the damage they've done. I'm not sure what the plant names are but I can find out. Need to go to my local centre and see if they need something for the white poop. Since all the fish are now doing it. They're all healthy and fine apart from that. Not acting strange, perfectly active and my sad one has perked up no end today. :) The colours coming back into his fins.
I also found out how the little deformed harlequinn is doing so well. After giving them a tiny amount of food last night I watched him after the lights were out (Just a small lamp at the other end of the room) and he filter feeds from the surface! Darts around catching missed bits in his mouth (He can't close it bless him). He really is a remarkable thing considering his disability.
Hugs,
P.
