you can keep them 1:1 however sometimes the female will get stressed, 2:1 is better i.e. 2 females : 1 male

Cool. WOuld say a black male breed with an oprange female or silver female say? Or woudl they a=have to be the smae colour?

no they will quite happily interbreed, however it depends on how interbred they already are if all the fry will be viable :)
commercial mollies are not a pure strain they are massively inbred to give the colours and shapes sizes we like.

I bought this pair to see how they interact with the other fish. So far so Good.
When i go to collect what i have reserved (Ribbon Guppies) i wil get another female - they will be bringing more out from quarantine so willsee what colors they have.

I would love it if they have a Wild color female, Green/Red/orange/blue.

the male has been putting on quite a show this evening and has big thick vertical stripes in dark blue.
all i did was change some of the lighting and chuck in some guppy pellets.
