platies

its somewhat difficult to figure out...plats are always fat so its really hard...i never have witness a female giving birth but if you have a few floating plants and some plants, rocks, etc on the bottom they usually hide without getting eaten....you cant really tell when she will give birth

good luck with platies...if you dont get info here check other sites...go 2 google and type in pregnant platies or just platies....good luck

What type is it? Sometimes the gravid spot is hard to see when the fish is black. You should be able to make out eyes towards the end of the pregnancy.

my only advice would be: lots and lots of plants!!!
I keep finding platy fry in the tank, to be sure, I put them in the fry tank, although I'm quite certain they would survive in the community tank too...

If the fish is not black then one of the best ways to tell is by a black shape near the anal fin called the gravid spot. (The black shape is where the fry are forming eyes.)

If you want to know how long she has left then keep and eye on her to see whether she is hiding away, this is a sign that the pregnancy is around 2 days away.

wow that soon, my platty is doing that alot but she isnt that fat, however she does have a quite dark gravid spot. I was expecting her to get a lot bigger though
