I'm thinking about buying two assorted platys. A sunburst and some other one.

Is there anything in paticular I should know about these fish? I heard they are very active

My tank at the moment is

Temp: 80 (currently treating one for ick, it's normally about 77)
Hardness: 16
PH: 7.8
Amonia: trace
Nitrite: trace
nitrate: 40

Contains: 3 sailfin mollies, 4 black widow tetras, 1 clown loach

The tank was donated to me as he was killing all the fish off

hi, platys are great fish, one of my favorites,
they are placid, if you stick to 2 females thats fine but if you would like a male you really should have 2-3 females per male, as the females will be harrased a lot for mating.
what size is your donated tank? how longs it been running, ammonia should be 0 , nitrite also 0.
clowns love to be in groups of 3 or more but need lots of growing room.
all the best with your new platy should you go ahead and get some, they are wonderfull fish.
hth donna :) .

You said you were treating a fish for ich??? You should probably wait till the ich is gone before you add any new fish.

Tank is 55 gallons! I'll probably get a couple of females just to be on the safe side! I'm gonna save a bit till I get get another clown loach too!

@ livebearer - i'll hold off till it's cleared up! cheers

Thanks both!

thye should be fine being the hardy fish that they are, but my fish likes to scare the crap out of me and goto sleep and look dead i had to poke him with a fishnet to be sure he was alive(i was being careful!!!), and he jolted to the cave, to my relief
