I have 5 female platies and 3 males (Also have 7 danios and 6 neon tetras). I really would like the platies to start breeding but none of them seem ever to have a very black gravid spot. My males are only interested really in one of my female platies, a sunburst coloured one and one male, predominately follows her around and seems to scare off the other 2 males. However my other 4 females dont get any attention. Of these 4, one has actually had fry before (3 months ago when i first bought her she dropped but my zebra's managed to eat all of these.) but since then nothing. I closely analyse and try to watch the females, in fact i have noticed that they all seem to have a white ball (spot) on the end of their anal fin but im not sure now if this is always there or if it gets bigger?

could someone advise me on how to encourage some breeding? or some plants to make more hiding spaces? or what?

How big are your platies? As juveniles may not breed. Don't go by the gravid spot as it can be misleading. Go by the size of her, when she gets abnormaly large she is ready to give birth. Be sure you put her in a breeding trap when she is due, otherwise your other fish especialy the danios will eat the fry.

Also add some cabomba so the fry can hide.

they are all adult platies. 2 of the females are very large, much bigger than all my males, whilst the other three females i guess are roughly the same size as my males..... i also have a separte tank which occasionaly as i though they might be pregnant i have moved the too.....but no fry :(

Right now, you have aproximately 1-2 female platys to every male. Generally, you should have 3 to every male, but If you don't have enough room, you can just get one more to have 2 to every male.
