Would it work out? :/ Of course, a minimum of two if possible to fit them.

It would work as far as bioload goes- you could probably fit in 4 or 5. Bigger would be more fun for them though.

yeah ive kept like 5 or 6 in a 10 gallon, than I upgraded to a 20L, they seem a little happier now.

I don't claim to be any kind of expert, but I'm pretty sure a few platies in a 10-gallon would be fine...all fish are happy to have more space, of course, but I don't think they would be unhappy at all in a 10-gallon as long as you keep the numbers low. 4 or 5 one and a half inch platies keep you well within the inch of fish per gallon rule.

It would be just platies, maybe a small snail but only one. Ehm, it was a tie between cories and platys - I was considering getting both males and females and letting them breed, but not trap the fry. I have hornwort, vallisneria, java ferns, and water wisteria in it, so I figured if any, some that hid could be saved? As I don't think my lfs would buy, although I could ask.. hmm.. probably need a bigger tank for them to even consider breeding. Do you guys have any other freshwater suggestions? Guppies, but they are just so inbred.

yeah buy your females from one shop and males from another then your fry should be healthy. Remember 3 females to 1 male will help ease the stress

Okay. :good: I've heard livebearers can pick at snails, is there a cleanup crew that will fit into this tank?

You won't have room for a vast amount of fry in that tank. The other consideration is that the females may well be pregnant already from the shop so for the first few batches you might not have that much say about paternity. On the other hand, an all male community might suffer aggression problems in a smallish tank.

I think if I were you I would go for an all female community- they tend to be more peaceful IME and eventually the supply of babies will dry up. I like female livebearers anyway- they have all the outgoing attitude and charm without the hormones.

Other suggestions might be:

livebearers (if you can find them)- endlers, heterandria formosa (least killifish/dwarf livebearer)

barbs- cherry barb (1 male+harem)

tetras- small tetras: neons, glowlights, black neons (there are loads more, but I'm not much of a tetra person), ember tetras if you can find them

rasboras- harlequins, espei or some of the dwarf rasboras if you can find them

oddballs- peacock gobies (1 male+harem)

Livebearers - I could buy endlers online, but they are all male+female

Barbs - Maybe.

Tetras - I'm not a personal favorite of them because of some many causualties with neons or cardinals, but the hardier species are bigger.

Rasboras - Had an interest in Harlequins, I'll see if I can care for them...

Oddballs - Are those brackish? I was considering a few bumblebees, but the brackish kind of scares me. :/
