Ok, heres whats up. Back in the day when I was Amtrak21, I bought some platies and neons and 2 guppies. Than I had the nitrite spike while my platy gave birth. My neons all died except for 1. A guppy and the platy that had the kids survived also. This happened all before I was gone.

Well, while I was gone, some differen't stuff happened. My platy got pregnant again. There were no other platies in there so it had to be the guppy. The fry can't get the mother preggo right? When I was at the secondary forums, they said a guppy can't get a platy pregnant. But thats the only way I can see my platy getting pregnant. Anyway, I only got 4 fry because I was away and when I got back a bunch of em got eaten.

Alright well, thanks for the advice that I get.

oh, and do LFS's take take fry? I got way too many now.

no i dont think so i think they breed only with there own kind i think?

I'm pretty sure livebearers can interbreed but only if there are no other of their own kind. So if your platy is pregnant and there are just guppies and unmature fry it's a hybrid. Ask in the hybrid section I think it's happened before.

The last post I saw on a topic like this was that they wouldn't breed what with being in a different genus (well, not sure if it goes farther up in the classification system).

Also, Just1nK4ng, :hi: to the forum. I can't pm you, so have you validated your account? Introduce yourself in the newbie section. :D

And Xtreme, you say when you were Amtrak, I take it that is your old user name? Why did you change it?

hi there!
how old are the fry? they can breed with their mother if they're old enough. also the mother can give birth several times, just from 1 encounter with a male, so depending on how long you've had her, she could have been storing the sperm....good luck with the babies!! :D

impossible i am afraid and its because livebearers hold sperm thats why she is up the duff

platies can cross breed with sword tails

guppies can crossbreed with mollies
