Hi

I have three platies (one male, two females) at the moment and am thinking of getting a single male Siamese Fighting Fish once the tank has settled.

I am aware that you have to be a bit careful with what you put in the tank with the SFF and wondered if three platies would be okay. One of the platies is already displaying signs of agression with one of the other females, so not sure whether introducing a SFF would be the best thing.

I seem to be getting a lot of contradicting advise from various fishshops, some say to be wary others say 'Nah, you can have anything with them' so am a bit confused.

They are fine together but dont but guppies with them they will nip them off.

I would be cautious, it all depends on the personality of the fish, if you get a placid SF you might get away with it, if you do try, make sure you have a back up plan if things go wrong.

Like minxfishy said. Betta tankmates are all up to the betta. Some of them are well behaved - I've even seen them kept in full communities with guppies and gouramis and they didn't cause problems. I used to have one that was at the other extreme. Evil little thing. He'd tear ghost shrimp apart (not even eat them, just legs and heads scattered on the tank floor like a horror movie), picked up a dwarf frog by the leg and banged him around the tank, and almost killed himself trying to figure out how to kill a snail.

i would say, with one of your platies showing aggression to avoid a betta, as the platy showing him aggression will make him fight back, how big is the tank?
