Hello, I have a tank already set up, and I have a few live bearers and I am getting some females in a few days..
Is it a stupid idea to put a heater in a plastic tank (making sure it wont touch the sides to cause a melt down  )

Does anybody use this? Or should i jsut go with a small 30litre tank for fry?

Do you think this platey is pregnant?

thanks in advance!

I have a 6g acrylic tank that I have a small heater in. Works fine for me!

Thanks Cation, I am trying to find sneaky ways to get more tanks with my dh's approval, I am getting another tank this week to house my fry  (I have other plans :p , so then i can set up a plastic tank as a hospital if needed, i never had any problems with sick fish but it good to have one handy..

Thanks Chooklet, I thought she was pregnant! I have an identical femal platy to her and she is not pregnant well, not showing yet anyhow.
I am watching her behavior closely.

I recently set up a 5-gallon plastic hospital tank with a heater. No problems so far. As long as it's not touching the plastic, I doubt you'll have a problem.

I've never had a problem with plastic tanks with heaters. Sometimes it gets bumped and touches the sides, but I've never had a problem. The smaller plastic tanks are easy to bump and have the temp shoot up if you don't keep an eye on it, but I think this is about the same for smaller tanks period. 8)
