:/ I just went out and got a big plastic tank it can be used for fish, reptiles etc, my intentions were for baby fish or to use it as a hospital tank, but Im told i cannot put a heater in it as its plastic :( So how do i go about putting in my ill guppy? Do i need to have a filter running and is there NO way i can put a heater in???

I was told that as long as the heater doesn't touch the plastic, then it will be ok. Never tried it though.
And yes, you will need a filter. A sponge filter will do even.

I have seen a small tank filter which i think is supposed to be for goldfish but seems to work the same as a tropical one would this be ok?

I have plastic 4 gallon which has a heater. as long as it doesnt touch the sides then its ok. the suction cups give it the clearance needed but try and find a short one.
how many gallons is yours? if its around four then a simple air driven filter either a box filter or sponge filter would work but a very small internal will be more effective and if the current is too fast then place a tall ornament or plastic plants in front to break the current.

The measurments are 38cm by 22cm high by 17 cm to the back so its only small hence just bein a hospital or baby tank

I've got a 1.5 gallon plastic kritter keeper that I have a betta in and I've got a heater in it and it's fine. Like everyone else has said the as long as it doesnt actually touch the plastic it should be ok.

ok thanks and also i have just set it up how long do i wait for it to be cycled i have used some of the gravel from my original tank

You'll obviuosly need to add a source of ammonia, it should, in theory, be instantly cycled, but probably won't be unless you were using a ugf.
