Does anybody know what are the best most 'Real looking' plastic plants you can get? & who does them?

I am based in Northern Lincolnshire.

ps - Newbie who wants to keep a decent amount of Silver Dollars.

nothing to do with plastic plants but silver dollars need to be in a large shoal in a huge tank as they grow big (sorry if you knew that already by the way :) )

as for plants, why not try live ones? they look a whole lot better than plastic or silk

The cheapest ones I have found are in Wilkinsons, the smaller ones are about 89P which is a lot cheaper than in a fish shop. At that price you can throw them out when they start to look past their best. I have real plants as well. :)

I have a mix of real and silk plants in my tank. I've had bad luck with live plants that I buy from the pet stores, so I bought aquatic plant bulbs instead of the adult plants, and have had loads of success. I just plopped them in and use plant tabs. They are great.

If you don't want live plants (the SDs will devour most types), I recommend silk plants. I am against plastic plants because they are dangerous. There is nothing soft about a plastic plant, and they usually have pointy or sharp edges that I think would be painful to swim in or around - I know I would hate them if I were a fish! Plus, one time I found one of my upside down catfish dead in a plastic plant. It had swam between the leaves, and got stuck because it was the type that had the sharp leaves that point up, so it acted like a cage and trapped my little fish.

So go with either live or silk. With SDs, I think silk is the best way to go. I don't know of any company names, but they are common, the same price as plastic plants, safer, and they look a LOT more realistic. And, your SDs won't eat them.

I started my tank with four platys. One male died the day I bought him. I lost a female a week later when she was impaled on a plastic plant (through her gill). It was very sad. I was ready to give up on fish at that point, then the other female had babies and things have gone fairly well since then. I have considered replacing my plastic plants with live ones, but haven't looked into that enough yet.
