You can never have too many plants...Although you should have a little less than this relatively if you want to see your fish a lot. Java ferns are a good plant for starters...And they reproduce quickly...All these came from 3-4 small plants my dad got years ago, and now I have a lot in each tank :)

Remember that plants use oxygen at night, so you need to take the extra load into consideration when stocking the tank.
