Plants!

Hiya,
had my tropical tank for bout year now, only 1 ft but addiquit for me lol!
couple of questions.
plants make such a mess in my tank leaves falling off all the time, and do the plants make the water and gravel go a bit greeny sometimes?
do you actually need plants with an oxygen pump? coz i wanted to just have artificual ones, so it keeps the mess to a minimum! am i able to do this? i only have one oxygen pump but if it meand getting another one i would get it!

If the plants leaves are falling off all the time it means they are either dying or the conditions in the tank isn't to their liking, can you get any pics of your plants? Does the tank have lighting? Not all plants sold for aquariums are actually true aquarium plants unfortunately.
You don't need plants with an oxygen pump though, but they do have other bennefits like lowering nitrate levels in the tank .
