Can Miracle-Gro All-Purpose Plant Food be used in an aquaurium as plant food...

I would say not. It may make your water a mess. There are plant foods meant specifically for aquariums though.

I get the impression that it is not supposed to be done from listening to others comment about fertilizers but I have heard of people using regular fertilizers in aquariums. I however would be very very reluctant to use none specialized fertilizers in my aquarium because there is no telling what additives they put in with the fertilizers. I recommend using aquarium fertilizer.

well guys this will be a test....
i put 1/6 table spoon of miracle gro plant food in my 10 gal tank that is cycling.
this tank has only one bamboo shrimp and about 8 plants...
i also have a CO2 driver
i will leave this tank lighted 24/7 for 3 weeks
and see what happens
any suggestions...

i have been out of the fish scene for 7 years... and i did Zoology and botany in college... but i work in IT now.... so i a hoping that this planted tank will help me get back too my roots... pun intended...

wecome back - I'm betting on a very green tank

Carl

is that a good green or a bad green...
i know its small... but that what i am starting with...

Plants need a dark period. 24/7 lights and miraclegrow = algae out the whazoo.

Sorry, I meant a bad green. adding ferts and keeping the lights on 24/7 will almost assuredly lead to a monumental algae bloom. Cut your lights back to 10-12 hrs a day and adjust from there.

it may work for your plants but i doubt it would work for your fish
