I ordered some plants from GreenLine to fill in a couple of gaps in my low tech tank. They were posted on the Monday, then the Royal Mail called that unofficial strike on the Tuesday and they were stuck in the post ever since.

Well they arrived today (7 days in the post) and they're actually in good nick, which is testament to the good quality of GreenLine plants in the first place I suppose. Anyway, they get my thumbs up!

Now, I'm just waiting on another couple of parcels that are missing....... :shout:

I think you would of been able to claim for them from royal mail. Standard mail is "insured" up to about £25 or £30 I believe.

Good to hear though :) I ordered stuff from Greenline last Wednesday, got an email saying they were going to wait till this week to post them to enusre safe delivery (though, wasn't specifically cos of postal strikes I don't think).

I also ordered some java moss from java-plants on 26 July I still havent received it. phone them and they said they send it out on monday 30 july. Do you think the java moss will still be fresh for that long?

haha, good to hear the plants are okay.

my kelly clarkson CDs were stuck in the post for 6 days

i almost died.

seems like alot of you in the uk order plants online and delivered. I never tried as where i live its pretty much impossible any online! Most are just from LFS. Why is that ? is online better?

Well, I got my order from GreenLine this morning. I'm assuming they were sent out on Monday so thats pretty good! Only problem is the Blyxia Japonica I ordered doesn't look to happy :( Hopefully it will recover...

I just need to figure out where I'm going to put them all now :D Damn these spur of the moment orders :)

I think a lot of us order online for a few reasons. One is because many LFS's don't stock Tropica plants, or specialist plant growing supplies (like ferts etc). I think a lot of us order ferts and plants at the same time.

Also I think its down to the range of plants you can get online compared to at an LFS. Your average LFS will only stock basic things, and even non-aquatic plants as we've seen on the odd post in this forum recently.

Online (in general) you just have a bigger wider selection from suppliers who are more focussed on plants.

some people might find that their pets at home stocks tropica, mine does but you have to get there early, if you do get there early enough you can get some really good finds, but yeah in general ordering online means you get what you want in good condition and well looked after also many plants like HC just arnt going to be available any other way. Also its likely that stuff from you lfs is going to be ill treated and dying. All my plants are from greenline except for the anubias which are pets at home tropica plants which I was lucky enough to get the day after they had arrived.

I've had some great buys from P@H over the last 6 or 10 months. A lot of my tropica plants have been from their, or Aqua Essentials online. Recently I've bought Crinum calamistratum and Crinum natans as well as Java fern Narrow/Windelov, which are all usually quite expensive online, for £3 each (as part of a 3 for £9 deal P@H do).

As you say, you have to time it right, else they all start to die off or end up as mush at the bottom of their poorly lit plant cascade.

yeah I know you can get some really good deals from pets at.. the only thing is timing, when I bought my Anubias the woman in front had bought the only petite and HM for her "goldfishes bowl" both of which I would have loved to have got my hands on but that's just how it goes.
pets at home has otto's in lately, I got 2 and they're both fighting fit, contrary to the myth that a fish from pets at home is a dead fish.
