Hi,

I need some advice on my aquariums plant fertilizer.

The aquarium is a 25 (us)g set up with 2.16 wpg lighting, eco complete and diy co2 (using ferplast canisters and energy power reactor).

My CO2 levels are around 30ppm according to my drop checker but the plants whilst pearling and growing are not thriving, when I first placed them in they were vivid greens and reds, but not some of the reds are growing health, but green leaves, some of the greens are doing well but growing kind or yellowy red and worse, some leaves are turning black on edge or developing holes and I have removed them. I also had a tiny bit of furry algae recently too but I have since removed all the leaves that were suffering.

I fear is is due to fertilisation, currently I am dosing 10 ml of the tropica Plant Nutrition +, 5ml on Sunday after a 30% water change, and 1ml a day till the Friday, I am also doing 2ml per day Flourish excel.

Am I missing something, I really don't want to have to get too scientific on dosing hence the Tropica + (with N and P) but should I be adding something more.

Please any help will be appreciated.

ALSO as side Note, is it usual for Algae shrimps to hide all the time?,m bought 2 on the weekend and they have vanished, the tank is mainly tetra with some guppies and loach but none with a big enough mouth for shrimp munching.

And I quote:

Use:
PLANT NUTRITION+ liquid is added each week when the water is changed. We recommend 5 mL per 50 L water. However, we recommended that this is set in accordance with plant requirements. PLANT NUTRITION+ liquid contains, in addition to micro-nutrients, all essential macro-nutrients. The fertilizer is particularly suitable where plants display a lack of nutrition. However note that if algae growth starts, PLANT NUTRITION+ liquid will promote this growth.

So, if it supposedly contains everything as stated on their website (http://www.tropica.com/article.asp?type=news&id=687) then I guess you are not dosing enough or not regularly enough.

Up the dosage old bean! Your plants are hungry little critters....

I wouldn't worry too much about the shrimp hiding, they usually will do for the first week or two until they're comforable in their surroundings.

I recently moved 3 over from my 29g, where they'll go for anything, including food in the male dwarf gouramis mouth and whatever the BN is munching on, over to my 10g which had nothing in it except for plants and I hardly saw them for the first week. Couple of weeks on and they're starting to be more active, will probably become even more so as more time passes!

I'll not see mine for weeks, and then when I do a water change, out he pops!
