Hi all, i am very impressed with the info on this site.

I have a question, prob a stupid one lol,

i have or should i say had 3plants in my tank, the light is on for around 8hrs a day.. for some reason they start going kinda brownish and breaking up . i plant them in the gravel i leave the weight and the pinky sponge on the plnts and push them as far down as possible.

is this correct. they seem to uproot easy

The sponge around the roots of your plant is called rockwool I believe. You can leave this on, just remove any pot that is surrounding the roots. If there are a lot of roots just ensure they are all emmersed in the substrate; I don't think you have to try and push them as far down as you can really. If it helps you could make a mound of substrate around the plant so as to help cover all the roots and anchor it down.

I suggest you look into the lighting, nutrient, temperature, carbon dioxide and PH levels that each of your plants need as any one of these could be causing your plants to die. Generally, if you have very powerful lighting plants will degrade as such lighting encourages them to absorb c02 and nutrients at a much faster rate; if you don't have the latter two things (c02 & nutrients) they will die as they will not have the energy to grow.

More information about your set-up is needed really to precisely say what is causing the plants to decay.
