hi, i have started to really get into planted tanks, so i have 4 different plants in my tank, they are all in plant pots, they seem to be doing well, but do they do better out of the pots?

And can anybody recomend a liquid fert ?

Thanks :good:

Hi there :)

Your plants will grow better out of the pots. Means they will be able to spread out their roots and anchor themselves naturally in the substrate.

Fertilisers all depend on how much effort and money you want to put in :p I use TPN+ in my tank which I and many other people find very good, however dependant on the size of your tank can get expensive to dose. There are other cheaper fertilisers on the market but they tend not to provide all that the plants need. If you only have 4 plants then you could also consider using root tabs which are little capsule tablet things that you put in your substrate under the plant so you are only fertlising where it is needed. For a smaller tank with less plants this is a good option as a tab will last a couple of months I think :)

Hope that helps a bit!

Ohh i forgot to say i have sand. does this make any difference?

Good to hear thanks guys for the information. i Hopefully will get the plants out the pots, problem is the roots have grown out the pots

Hopefully go to the lsf tomorrow and get some sort of fert, and also a few more plants.

Don't forget to take as much of the rockwool off the roots as possible before planting. Also as sand is an inert substrate (ie doesn't hold nutrients) then root tabs will help. I can recommend TPN+ by Tropica for ferts (make sure you buy the + one not just TPN as you'll start getting deficiencies.)

Just to add, if you do choose to go for the TPN+ then your best bet is to try and get it online as I have rarely, if ever, seen it in fish shops ;)
