Plants In Pots And Rings

This is probably a dumb question but when using plants with sold pre-potted or in rings, does it matter if you leave them in the rings or pots..
I presume that when they grow I can re-pot to a larger container..

whats the correct way?

i always take them out of the pots and put them in the substrate. (unless the plant has a rhizome).

I take them metal rings off as I have found that tehy can rot the plant after a while. Maybe something to do with water moving around the roots or something? The didn't do my twisted vallis any favours!

ALWAYS take them out of the pots and rock wool/metal ring or you will stunt their growth.
