Plants In A Tang Tank

I have some Vallisneria in my tank am I better of getting some soil and planting them in that for best results ?

Is there a specfic type of soil I need to use?

They do fine in sand for me.

Cool so just leave them in the pots and cover the pots ?

No.. take out of the pots, pull all the wool off and plant them into the substrate.. if your fish are keen on digging them up, place some stones around the bases of the plants, or cut some holes in a yoghurt pot lid and thread the plants through that, then bury the whole lot.
