Ok well somebody in my tank are eating on my crypts but not my vals or hornwort and killing the leaves. Sorry I dont know the specific name of the crypts but one is light green with 2" leaves and small and the other has 4" stems and 2" leaves and is tall and the leaves float around a little and has a little red in it. Here's my tank its the 29http://www.freewebs.com/atmmachine816/myfish.htm

Thanks my guess is its the rasboras but I am not sure It only happens in the night.

thanks

Austin

since nobody seems to know would it be better to move the crypts to my 2.5 gallon tank to let them recover and grow instead of being fish food???

I wouldn't move the crypts. From what I hear they tend to melt away if they're moved. I have never heard of rasboras eating plants but I wouldn't say it was impossible. Are you sure your crypts aren't just melting because of a change in your water or a move? I was lucky enough that mine hasn't melted yet since adding it to the tank and its actually growing but from what I hear this is not the norm.

I tend to have some leaves die as new ones grow, are you still getting new growth on your crypts?

Yes though one leaf is just completly dissapeareing with no remnants anywhere while another one is growing.

I'd put my money on the goldfish. I have a hard time keeping any plants except swords and java ferns with mine. I'm constantly having to replant them stem plants they keep pulling up.

Psst, there are no gold fish in his tank BTW. Plants are, oh, about, 75-80% water and do decompose surprisingly fast. This may be an explaination, maybe your ottos munch on the dead/decaying leaves a bit (never heard or seen this done but I would immagine that it would be plausable, they are vegitarians!)
