I am planning to have an area at least 18" x 14" in my freshwater sump to have a heavily planted area (in an effort to try and reduce nitrites).

Can anyone suggest any good plants that woupld suit the bill (especially since they will only be in about 8" of water or so).

I am planning to have around 2.5 Watts per Gallon and am considering having a CO2 injection. Would any of this be worth it?

Help is gratefully received ;)

Since you are doing this more for nitrates, suggest you go with egeria densa, hornwort. These grow like weed and chew nitrates. :) Hornwort does not root so height is no problem. Egeria is not fussy as well.

hmm, hadn't thought of floating plants...My only fear with them is that of them growing to quickly and taking over the top (as happened once in my 4ft tank)

Still, some good maintenance should sort that out :D

thanks for advice, any ideas on what fish/inverts (if any) to keep in the planted area. I was thinking of maybe a couple of shrimps, possibly a couple of small fish as well...
