Right well, I've just treated myself to a new 25ltr (5 1/2 gal) fish tank for my room!

My big plans for the tank are to have a betta, and maybe 2-3 cories in it, but first I need to cycle it and stuff. I've used a bit of the water and a plant from my current 16gal, and reckon I'll be adding the cories next week sometime (depending on the levels).

I was just wondering if you guys could suggest plants for my tank, as you can see from the picture it's quite tall, and the plant I have at the moment and the ornament are quite vertically-challenged  , so can any-one suggest some Betta friendly tall plants (That you would find in an average LFS). I've got some amazon sword-plant in my big tank spare, but it seems to go upwards and outwards, which I think may ruin my small tank - can this be stopped?

Cheers for reading! :good:

I bought mine from DP fishways on ebay from Modaz , just recently for my fry, he does bunches of various plants that are good for bettas I was very pleased with the quality of mine :good:

Hi
The tanks looking nice :good:

I assume you used some water from the older tank for bacteria? If so, unfortunately there are very few beneficial bacteria in the water itself. I only say this as cories are not really good in new tanks and are quite sensitive to any kind of Ammonia and NitrIte spikes. I would wait until the tank has mature for a few months before adding them. If you want to speed the cycling of the filter up, take some filter material out of a mature filter and put it in yours :good:

Oh okay thanks for the warning haha!

I was just wondering, is it okay to take some fish out of my big tank, cycle the tank with them (like my hardier mollies for example) and then put them back in my big tank? Assuming they were hardy enough to do this?

Also - the plant was from my old tank, and yeah i'll look into the filter media - it's just that my big filter has a covered filter media holder with little tubes for them in, which I don't think I can get into - would the sponge part inside have any bacteria on it?

Cheers :good:

If you can get into it then you can clone your filter by swapping some over from your mature filter to your new one. This would definately speed things up.

Also for plants you could get some Amazon Frogbit which floats on the surface. Their roots grow really long and the fish love hanging around in them. It will help to break up the big gap at the top of the tank too. Pippoodle on here sells it at a very good price :good:

Some people do the In fish cycling. I think there is a thread on the forum which tells you all about it and also the fishless cycling.

Thanks for the help - going round the LFS in a bit doing a plant run haha! :good:
