I'm starting a 75 gallon, rbp tank and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to plants that don't need much light. Since pirhanas don't like light and tend to be skittish in a regular light i got a dim bulb but would like to put in some plants that could survive in this.

Hi, when I kept pirhanas, I threw some wisteria in without planting it, this fast growing plant formed a canopy over the entire surface of the water, filtering and subduing the light quite nicely.

I didn't have any special bulbs to grow the plants, just the standard lighting that came with the tank. I had also some swords in the tank. They grew all right, but remained tattered with the way the pirhanas chased their food about.

I wouldn't suggest getting piranhas, they need big tanks and like to be in shoals of at least six. Oscars are a million times better, anyways.

But that's just my (extremely biased) opinion.

Or hey! How about not putting in any plants at all (if you really want plants, though, I'd suggest a few Amazon swords - they're easy to care for and they have a nice look to them) and putting in some large pieces of driftwood, some larger smooth rocks, and larger grey gravel substrate. The piranhas would feel right at home in a darker environment, and you wouldn't need strong lighting.
