hi, im currently cycling my tank with fish (60l freshwater, 15w bulb). I have got about 7 different plants in there but i noticed a few of em seem to be dying, ive only had the tank just over a week and im a complete newbie with plants.

So far ive been doing nothing plant-wise (ive been more concentrated on keeping my fish alive). I have got NO idea what plants i have, i've added a few pictures below so if anyone could see any, it would be great :p (sorry for rubbish quality). I'm just wondering if theres anything else i should be doing with them, i have the light on for around 10 hours a day. I was considering getting some tetra plantamin, but would this make a difference or not?

The plants are just in direct gravel, no substrate underneath, i was told his would be fine but im starting to second guess >_<

The plant at the back which you can hardly see (and also its falling apart) the front of the leaves are dark green but the back of the leaves are red.

The plant in the corner, as you can see, its visibly dying :(

You`ve been sold house plants as aquarium plants, unfortunately some fish shops do this, its not a big deal though your not doing any thing wrong,
the ferny plant at the front right, the white and green plant with grass shaped leaves and the other one at the back right seem to be as i said house plants, and will just rot and die....
the twop plants i can see witch are true aquatic plants are cabomba, (the one with the very fine leaves, and elodia densa the other one.

a few quick tips on keeping your planst alive...

when you buy plants take the lead off from the bottom and plants them in groups of 3 stems or so, about 30mm apart, this will alow them to grow roots,
most plants you get from an lfs you can easily grow withought the need for extra light or ferts, so save your money.
and when it comes to pruning with stem plants such as you have simply cit them just below where a group of leaves branch off (this is called a node) and simply replant and they will soon start growing again and the old plant will also regrow. a great and easy way to fill your tank quickly.

If you want some more planst for your tank, ask for.

Ludwiggia
hygrophillia polysperma
amazon swords,
cryptocoryene

any of the above species will grow easily and also look great :p

so basically all but 2 are house plants? argh thats so annoying. That shop is going to be getting a very angry phone call later :p

Thanks for the advice anyway

yep looks like it to me, maybe 3 can`t see the one in the back corner properly....
