i have heard from a lot of people that the life of plants in the aquarium is limited, although i have to say that i have not found this problem with my tank. Anyway if anyone else has found that their plants don't last more than 3 months, just post it

I now wonder whether my plants are all going to suddenly die over night

How long a plant lives depends on the care it receives and whether or not it is a true-aquatic plant or not. True aquatics can survive much longer than 3 months in an aquarium that meets their basic needs for lighting and nutrients. I have anubias and stemplants that are around two years old and have no signs of age other than being larger. If their needs are not met, then it does take around 1-3 months for an aquatic plant to die-off, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter depending on the species. Disease and deficiencies can also take their toll. There are some species, like some Lilies and aponogetons that have a die-off period where they need to be dormant, but then they reemerge.

A non-aquatic plant in an aquarium has a lifespan of 3 months to a full year in the aquarium, depending on the species. Taken out of the aquarium, however, these plants, if again, their basic needs are met, have long lifespans as well.

Hope this helps a little.
