hi,

as title says. i know sometimes plants leaves die if they are grown out of water and then put in water. but they were bought from an lfs where they were kept in water. I just want to make sure things are going ok...there's very small spots of what looks like brown algae on the glass, you really have to look close to see them though.

hi, this is known as die back, plants like vallis have this worse than plants like JF or anubias as these dont realise they have een taken out of water for a little while (like when you post them)

also im not so sure that the back stem is aquatic, i could be wrong.....

yes, there's been some debate about whether or not that is aquatic. i showed aaron north the picture of it from the site. and he said if it's the plant pictured it's aquatic, if it's the plant with the name, it's not aquatic...or vice versa i forget..but so far no definite answer..but it is sprouting root things from the stems and growing

so what do i do about the dieback? just clean up w/e leaves fall off? trim off w/e is dying?

the anubias is the one i'm concerned about most. everything else seems to be growing new bright green leaves.

the anubias should be fine when it gets its roots to the substrate.
The other plants you should trim off any dying leaves and new growth should appear in its place.

thanks a lot for your help.

gonna have a read in the algae section, as brown algae on glass is much more visible today.

maybe i need to get the anubias's roots in the substrate better..the rhizome is about half an inch above the substrate..everytime i try to plant it it's buoyancy pulls it up a bit.

edit:
just read jamescs algae thing. looks like i have brown algae, "usually occurs in newly set up tanks", yup. should clear up on it's own in a little bit i guess.

get some fast growers in there, like a type of weeds - elodea, egeria, they stuff that is 99p a bunch from your lfs, get 3 or 4 bunches and you should be fine.
