Plants Being Uprooted And The Gravel Being Pushed Aside

What fish have you got in with the plants?

I had two java ferns with my africans and every morning they would have both uprooted. I tried to stick them deeper but they would just rip of chunks and then it would get stuck in the filter. I finally just got rid of the plants.

As for the gravel. My cichlids move it all the time. Each time I clean the tank there is a spot that is clear down to the bottom, I haven't found a way to fix this other than just smoothing it back out each time i clean the tank.

Java fern and anubias tend to cope with most cichlids, I zip tie them to the wood or rocks. I used to have both in with my africans and americans

UGF not ideal with digging cichlids.......

How much gravel do you have on top of the UGF? (depth)

not deep enough for an UGF for a start, wether there is cichlids or not. Most UGF requires 1.5 - 2 inches of gravel over them
