Ive recently put a couple of plants into my tank - java fern, vallis and swords with some java moss on the way. Ive been reading up as much as I can, as ive never had a planted tank before.

At the moment theyre moving around in the current a fair bit - ive got the spray bar from my filter angled diagonally down. Is this bad for them? And if so, why?

Any other beginners tips you might have, feel free to dispatch them now!

Thanks, have angled it a bit further away from them just to be on the safe side.

My java fern and moss have jsut arrived, really excited now. Am I okay to attach the moss/fern with elastic thin bands? the moss is going on a plant pot and the fern will be attached to my bog wood (bits of which keep rubbing of in my hands, is this normal?)

elasic bands should be ok for a while, untill they break up. if you would have asked i could have crammed some fishing line into the envelope with the java moss. i have tonnes of it as i fish regulary.

Are you the ebay seller I bought these from? If so, what were the special mystery plants?

Ive got some fishing line just found the rubber bands easier. Is there a benefit to using fishing line?

elastic bands on the ferns as by the time they disintegrate the plant will be definately attached. If they don't disintegrate they are much easier to cut and remove than thread or fishing line.

you will struggle to do the moss with elastic bands. Fishing line or cotton thread is best for small things like that.

The moss is currently held down fairly securely with around 5 plastic bands. Is this okay? Is it enoguh to just hold it down loosely against the surface, or does it really need to be completely tied down?
