Plants And Snails

Hi, I have had an aquarium for three days now and I have decided i want to add live plants. is there a risk with any particular plant that snails could grow when i put them in? I currently have no fish as iwas advised to put in plants first. Is there any type of plant or treatment that will not even allow snails to start growing??

The tank is a fifteen gallon

Hello, sometimes there are snail eggs hidden in the live plants when you buy them. You can buy a liquid.......i think it's called snail stop, or something like that. Or, just keep your eyes open for any of the little buggars! Also, when stocking your tank with fish, it may be a good idea to get some fish that like to snack on snails! As if you spot 1 snail........there will be others hidden! Hope i've helped a little

ive had snails in the past when buying live plants but they were no match for my clown loaches who gobbled them all up no more snails after that!!

clown loaches are not always the answer as they grow quite big and prefer to be in groups, however there are smaller loaches that will get rid of them for you if we know you tank size

There are several things you can do before adding the plants to the tank, including quarantining them for a while, until you're sure there aren't snails or eggs, or rinsing them in a bleach solution to kill any eggs that there might be.

With any chemical solutions--store-bought products or bleach--you have to be really careful with usage, otherwise you could damage or kill the plants.

I think the tank will be too small for clown loaches, are there any other fish that can get rid of them?
