Someone posted this question over in the cichlid section, but I thought maybe I could post it here and see what you guys think, as I'm wondering the same thing.

I am thinking of adding some Rams to my tank, and am interested in knowing why kind of plants work well with them. If I were to try and create a more natural habitat for them, what plants would fit in there.

Thanks

I keep rams but I'm not sure what their natural habitat would be. If you look at some photography from the different regions of say the amazon you'll see something like an altum living in brownish water swimming through the roots of a sunken tree or something. In terms of aquascaping I would think a good lush foreground of glosso or riccia would be brilliant, Amano's aquascapes using rams are all riccia or glosso based.

Almost all the Rams are born and raised outside Amazon, so they would have never seen their native habitat. I doubt they would even care. They aren't "diggers" like the larger cichlids, so any large plants should do fine.
