Plants And Peat

I have just began to filter peat in my 200gal tank. I have not got the recommended amount of peat in the filter as it won't fit

I have some new plants arriving today/tomorrow from Java-plants and I was wondering that if peat is used with all its benefits to plants, do I still need to add fertiliser as well? I don't want to OTT and introduce huge amounts of nitrates to the water. The tank is pretty will stocked as well.

The answer to that will probably depend quite a bit on how much light you have over the tank?

Sufficient ... cannot remember as it was a while ago I installed. Will double check and come back
