Just wondering how many hours per day my tank lamp should be on for the best plant growth.

I'm guessing about the same amount of time the lamp should be on for the fish...

Roughly 10hrs a day, with or without a "siesta" period in the middle, is whats normally recommended.

theres never any need to have lights on for more than 9 hours per day and that is only with a very heavily planted tank. This is for two main reasons:

more light means the plants need more of the other nutrients - without these the plants will suffer.

excess light = excess algae
