I'm after a good plant substrate and i've been told that dernerle is the best stuff (exscuse the spelling, if you reconsie the name of the company)

I'm going to use a black sand over the top.

how much would i need for a 36" * 12" tank and where can i get it in the UK all the lfs in my area dont sell it.

Not sure exactly how much you would need in weight, but you want the depth to be about 2-3 inches, i think gf uses a Dennerle substrate.

well a good thing to go buy is a pound per gallon, but maybe a little more for the plants

just found the dennerle website,

http://www.newleafaquarium.com/dennerle.html

So far i'm looking at £42.50 for the undergravel heater, £27.50 for 25kg of black quartz gravel and £13.50 for the DEPONIT 120 superior pre-mixed with sand (best for 80 litres) do they deliver?

With the heater cable do i need to cover it with silver sand or will the plant substrate be ok.
