While trying to figure out why my Vals and some other plants seemed to be slowly dying while others were growing well, I came to the conclusion that it might be because I planted some in the pots they came in and some with lead and foam.
I'm not sure why I planted them like this as i've never done this before! I usually remove everything and just wait until they root themselves.
So, i remove a few plants and replanted them naked, so to speak!
Has anyone else had problems with plants in pots dying or not growing as well as they could?
Is there any evidence to suggest that the roots will just die when wrapped in foam or rockwool?

Andy

I would take them out of the pots, i have left plants in pots for a couple of weeks without any problems but i wouldnt recommend it, the Vals probably need a bit more light, ive not had much success with vallisneria the water in Dublin is very soft, vals usually prefer harder water, although they have grown for me they have always grown very very slowly, but i think the light may be the main problem Andy, the vals should bounce back once you get the ligting problem sorted they are quite hardy, but i would take them out of the pots anyway.

Thanks Zig..... They've only been in for a couple of weeks so there's still time to save them. I'm guessing by the rotten smell when i took them out of the pots that it can't have been doing them any good! The wierd thing is that some of the Vals are growing strong and others seem to be dying slowly, i'm not sure it's the light alone that's the problem, maybe i got dodgy plants but they looked strong when i picked them up.
