So I've read that it's tough to keep plants alive with a sand substrate. However I do like the more natural plant look to the fakes I have. Thinking of slowly changing over. Maybe a new plant each water change. Do I need anything special to grow plants in my pool filter sand?

no but i would ask someone else about how often because ive only had them 2 months but they havn't worn off on me yet :good:

Heh well ty. I'll look into them next time I head down to my LFS. (it's a 2h round trip so it doesn't happen too often!)

you can order them off the link i gave you and if you go to the bottom there is one thats got 750pcs for a cheapish price :good:

Aye but I'm Canadian and I don't like credit cards so ordering from Amazon is a hassle. Plus I like to support local businesses :good:

ahh ok :good:

dont know if local shops will sell them unless they have a good plants section

Worth a look at any rate. This is the website for my LFS: http://www.aquariumswest.com/ I adore them. They are so fantastic. I know from last time I was there they do carry some Sera products. And if they don't carry it hopefully they'll know where I can get.

Also depends on what plants you want (Anubias & Java Fern & Mosses, don't even go in the substrate). Also how heavily stocked you are fish wise.More fish = more fertilizer
Generally speaking stem plants are happy taking nutrients from out of the water, so a little extra fert dosed into the water may be ok.
Other plants like Amazon sword & Crypts will like a little more help via root tabs.

Well atm I'm still stocking the tank. Right now I have 4 Cherry Barbs and 5 Zebra Loaches. So as I slowly add fish I'll add plants too I think.

I was at petsmart the other day and saw seachem flourish tabs for plants. I looked them up on their website and they had good reviews, I'm going to try those for my plants. :D
