I'm new to fishkeeping and very new to keeping live plants, as in, I never have before, but would very much like to, so I have a boatload of questions. To start though, I have a 10 gal tank, with fish, that has been running well for a while, now. I'd like to know if it is advisable or not to try to plant a tank that already has fish (6 harlequins and 2 corys). I don't have another tank to keep them in. So, is this alright to do, and if so, how would I go about it (as far as adding substrate, etc.)? Thank you!

Best,
Chris

I just planted my 20 gallon tank after it had been setup with plastic plants for 5 months. I have ~3/8 gravel and (1) 15W T8 bulb. I have java lace fern, crypt wendti, and 2 types of anubia. I dose with excel on M,W, F and Flourish Sun, W. I do have a little algae but all of my plants are growing much faster than I thought they would. I have put a few root tabs in and my java fern is growing on driftwood. I do have to add some powder to make sure my kH doesn't drop below 3. My tap water is pretty soft.

With very low light, no CO2, and a gravel substrate I am still happy with my plants.
